Endorsements 2024

Our endorsement process is open to all DAE members. We met on January 7 and 20 to interview candidates, discuss, and vote on endorsements for the County Commission and School Board. Early voting is Feb 15 to March 2 and Election Day is March 5.

DAE endorses these four candidates for County Commission based on their commitment to fighting for public education, public school workers, students, and their families.

Nida Allam and Wendy Jacobs have fought hard for better funding for DPS, including raising the minimum wage for classified workers and hiring more nurses and social workers in 2021.

Michelle Burton served as the President of DAE from 2019-2023 and brings a lifetime of classroom experience and union leadership.

Mike Lee served on the DPS School Board from 2014-2022 and showed unwavering commitment to getting as much fiscal support as possible for DPS from the County.

Knowing how crucial the Durham Board of County Commissioners is to DPS (1/3 of DPS funding comes from the County), we stand behind these candidates who will prioritize DPS employees’ working conditions, because they know that these are our students’ learning conditions.
